I'm a pepper, you're a pepper...wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?

It seems an integral part of our DNA.

As if we shall perish without a sense of belonging

to a pack

or a tribe

or a club

or a clique

or a group

of one kind or another.

This was never more pronounced than when a friend, who had been adopted, shared that it was only with the birth of her child that she finally felt a deep sense of belonging.

This struck me.

I hear so many people try to detach  from their families of origin,

deny any sense of belonging -

and yet...

perhaps it is with this original sense of belonging

that there is a security

and a freedom

to seek further

forms of belonging

that may, in some instances,

feel more like home.
